Irrigation Technician

If you possess the above qualities, please submit a cover letter and resume outlining your education and experience in the following areas:
- Completion of grade 12 and completion of an irrigation system program which specializes in the service and installation of irrigation systems and equipment
- Possesses a valid irrigation level 2 certificate (IIABC)
- Ability to obtain cross connection backflow assembly tester certificate (BC preferably)
- At least 4 years of experience dealing with irrigation components and systems
- Demonstratable knowledge of soil moisture requirement for sports fields, shrub beds and other landscape areas
- Able to read digital site plans, interpret blueprint drawings and specification related to irrigation and drainage with the understanding of irrigation system design and routine and emergent repairs on all components related to irrigation
- Strong understanding of various brands of irrigation equipment pertaining to underground irrigation systems including both electric and hydraulic controlled systems
- Demonstratable knowledge with computer programs including word-processor, excel, outlook email, internal work order distribution systems and specialized computerized water management systems
- Ability to operate various grounds equipment including front end loaders, forklift, skid steer and trenching equipment
- Holder of a valid class 5 driver’s license and the ability to operate manual transmission
- Able to work outdoors under all adverse weather conditions
Description/Duties
Adjacent to Victoria on southern Vancouver Island, School District No. 62 (Sooke) is the fastest growing school district on Vancouver Island and one of the fastest growing districts in BC. The District operates in five municipalities: Langford, Colwood, Metchosin, Sooke and the Highlands and acknowledges the traditional territories of the Coast Salish: T’Sou-ke Nation and Scia’new Nation and Nuu-chah-nulth: Pacheedaht Nation. We also recognize some of our schools reside on the traditional territory of Esquimalt Nation and Songhees Nation. The District employs over 2,300 educators and support staff and serves over 14,000 students The District’s Strategic Plan looks ahead to the future and focuses on three priority areas: learning, engagement and growth.
Irrigation Technician
(effective immediately)
One permanent full-time, 40 hour per week position for the Sooke School District. Hourly rate of pay $31.63.
