Job Summary
Qualifications

Successful completion of secondary school according to provincial standards or an acceptable combination of education, training, and experience.
OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION
- Interprovincial certificate in carpentry (Red Seal) or provincial journeyman certificate in carpentry. Preference may be given to candidates possessing a Red Seal.
- Class 5 driver’s license or provincial equivalent.
EXPERIENCE
- EX1: Substantial experience in the carpentry trade in a maintenance shop environment;
- EX2: Experience in maintenance of residential and light industrial buildings.
KNOWLEDGE
- K1: Knowledge of current methods and practices related to structural repair and maintenance;
- K2: Knowledge of current codes, statutes, and regulations related to carpentry.
ABILITIES
- A1: Ability to communicate effectively;
- A2: Ability to use and instruct others on carpentry related tools and equipment;
- A3: Ability to plan and problem solve;
- A4: Ability to review and interpret conceptual plans, building/construction plans;
- A5: Ability to work independently and assess and adjust priorities.

ASSET EXPERIENCE
- AEX1: Experience in operating a water treatment plant and/or wastewater treatment plant
- AEX2: Experience in maintenance of historical buildings
- AEX3: Experience in maintenance of outdoor structures/facilities
Conditions of employment
- Reliability status
- Possession and maintenance of a Class 5 driver’s license.
- Willingness to report to work in Rogers Pass, BC
- Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform and/or prescribed protective equipment
- Willingness to work shiftwork, weekends, and/or holidays as required
- Willingness to work and/or travel in varied terrain, weather conditions, isolated locations and by various means of transportation

$35.18 to $38.24 per hour

Duties
- Carry out specialized carpentry as well as general labour building maintenance repairs to Parks Canada facilities.
- Conduct and document inspections as part of the code compliance program.
- Provide oversight and training to other Parks Canada staff on the safe operation of a variety of portable and stationary power tools.
- Assist and work together with other trades staff such as plumbers and laborers with their maintenance or construction activities.
- Review/draft statements of work and oversee contractors carrying out work at Parks Canada facilities.
- Fabricate a variety of items/components from wood or other materials in a carpentry shop; construct concrete forms and small buildings, structures and moulds for pre-cast components; and make interior/exterior building alterations.
- Identify, report, and repair building facility deficiencies.
- Travel on major highway in adverse weather conditions.
- Working conditions involve working indoor and outdoor (in all weather conditions)
- Physical work involves bending, crouching, lifting, walking, handling heavy tools.
- Advise on and maintain facilities to appropriate code standards.
- Take leadership role on building/construction projects including the direction of labour staff.
- Assist with snow removal around Parks Canada facilities
