Job Summary
Qualifications
Education: Completion of secondary school is required.
Experience: Completion of a four-year automotive service technician apprenticeship program or a combination of over four years of work experience and industry courses in automotive technology is required to be eligible for trade certification.
- A valid driver’s license (class 5) is required for vehicle testing and driving.
- Experience in diagnose and repair of passenger cars is required.
- Automotive Service Technician Red Seal certificate is a strong asset.
Area of specialization: Engine repair, Electrical and electronic system, Diagnostics; Alignment, steering and suspension; Brake system, Fuel and emission system, Ignition and electrical system, Automatic transmission, Standard transmission, Engine repair and overhaul, Drive train components, Front end components; Heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system.

Job Duties:
- Confirm findings with supervisor to determine whether to repair or replace unit
- Discuss work with supervisor
- Inspect and test mechanical units to locate faults and malfunctions
- Inspect motor in operation
- Review work orders
- Road test motor vehicles
- Test automotive systems and components
- Adjust, repair or replace parts and components of automotive systems
- Repair or replace mechanical units or components
- Test and adjust repaired systems to manufacturer's specifications
- Perform scheduled maintenance service
- Test and adjust units to specifications
- Complete reports to record problems and work performed
- Coach and instruct apprentices
- Test drive customers’ vehicles after service and/or repairs are completed
Salary: Flat rate is $33.65 per hour, 37.5 hours per week.
Benefits: Dental, disability and extended medical insurance are provided by the employer, as well as, vision care, group insurance, life insurance, medical benefits and piece work. Work uniforms and Personal protective equipment (PPE) provided by the employer.
Important Information: Flexibility in schedule is required. The worker will work 8-hour shifts per day that will be scheduled on a monthly basis within the business operating hours: From Monday to Friday, from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., or from Tuesday to Friday, from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., and Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The schedule includes a 30-minute unpaid lunch break. Overtime may be required depending on the business needs.
