Shipyard Mechanic / Millwright
Job Summary
Qualifications
- Required: Mechanical experience and/or education (e.g., marine, heavy equipment, or hydraulics mechanic; millwright; marine engineer)
- Required: Ability to diagnose and problem-solve
- Required: Team-player with a positive attitude and the ability to execute quality work safely and efficiently
- Asset: Welding/fabricating, woodworking, or other relevant trades skills
- Asset: Forklift, crane, and/or confined space certificate(s)
- Asset: Knowledge of marine vessels/systems
- Asset: Good verbal and written communication skills
Description/Duties
We are looking for Marine Mechanics / Millwrights to join our diverse team of mechanics, machinists, welders, fabricators, millworkers, painters, and sandblasters. Marine-specific experience is preferred but not required; experienced mechanics with an interest in learning the marine industry through on-the-job training are more than welcome! Apprenticeships and co-op programs will be considered.
Responsibilities
- Repair, replace, and install boat mechanical systems (e.g., propellers, shafts, bearings, valves, exhaust systems, gearboxes, bilge pumps, plumbing, gensets, etc.)
- Repair, fabricate, and install boat hydraulic and pneumatic systems (power take-off, steering systems, winch hydraulics, compressed air systems, etc.)
- Test engines, propellers, steering, and navigational equipment
- Perform sea trials and CSIs (Canadian Steamship Inspections)
- Perform vessel refits from basic to full rebuilds
- Construct new vessels
Everyone on our team is responsible for:
- Following safety procedures and helping continuously improve safety;
- Participating in a culture of continuous improvement to increase efficiency, reduce customer downtime, and improve our work environment;
- Supporting other team members and trades
Benefits & Other Details
- Full-time, permanent, available immediately
- $35-$45 per hour depending on experience
- Monday to Friday, 8-hour daytime shifts
