Landscape Horticulturist
Job Summary
Qualifications
Successful applicants must have:
- completed Grade 12;
- a B.C. Landscape Horticulturist Tradesperson Qualified Certificate or equivalent;
- current experience in the use of fertilizers;
- experience in turf maintenance, tree pruning and plant and shrub planting and care;
- knowledge and experience with installation, programming and watering patterns of irrigation systems;
- knowledge and experience of safe use of the machinery, tools and powered equipment required to carry out the assigned duties with mechanical aptitude;
- valid B.C. Class 3 Drivers License with Air Brake Endorsement;
- a Transportation of Dangerous Goods Certificate;
- formal training and experience in operating a backhoe/loader.
Description/Duties
It is acknowledged that Central Okanagan Public Schools operates within the unceded, Traditional Territory of the Okanagan syilx peoples. The School District enrolls approximately 24,000 students (including over 3,000 students who self-identify as having Indigenous ancestry). Central Okanagan Public Schools is located in the Central Okanagan encompassing the communities of Peachland, West Kelowna, Kelowna, and Lake Country. There are a total of 51 school sites with 33 Elementary Schools, 8 Middle schools, 5 Secondary Schools, 3 Learning Centres, an Alternate Education School, and an Online Learning School (K-12). We invite applications for the position of: Landscape Horticulturist
Under the supervision of the Director of Operations or designate, this position will inspect, maintain and document horticultural assets as well as perform other work normally carried out by the Grounds Department, including but not limited to, garbage collection and recycling; playground and fence installation and repair; and snow removal.
Applicants will be expected to:
- possess the physical condition and health to carry out the required duties of this position;
- work alone and within a team environment;
- maintain good interpersonal and communication skills and be self motivated;
- be proficient with Microsoft outlook, word and excel and work order system;
- complete SD23 online Health and Safety training.
This is full time continuing position starting as soon as possible, working 40 hours per week at a wage rate of $35.84 per hour, plus a comprehensive employee benefit package including extended health and dental coverage, short term and long term disability insurance and participation in a defined benefit pension plan.
