Qualifications and Experience:
- Completion of Grade 12.
- Apprenticeship and/or Trades Qualification Certificate - Carpentry.
- Valid B.C. Driver’s License.
- Ability to perform a variety of skilled carpentry tasks in the construction and maintenance of school district facilities.
- Thorough and current knowledge of the standards, practices, regulations, methods, tools and equipment of the trade.
- Ability to understand and effectively carry out general oral and written instructions with a minimum of supervision.
- Ability to communicate effectively using courtesy and tact in the explanation and exchange of information.
- Ability to determine, judge and select appropriate course of action within limits of established methods and procedures.
- Skill in use of tools of the trade.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and work sketches.
- Physical ability to perform the required duties.
Description/Duties
Job Title: Trades Certified Carpenter
Department: Maintenance
Reports to: Leadhand/Foreman
Langley School District #35 is seeking applicants for the position of Trades Certified Carpenter for a 40 hr/week, Continuing assignment.
Summary: Reports to the Carpenter Foreman/Carpenter Leadhand, and performs a variety of renovation, repairs and maintenance duties.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs a variety of carpentry duties including maintenance, repairs and renovation work.
- Performs layout, assembly and installation of woodwork projects.
- Inspects school gym equipment such as climbing apparatus, basketball hoops, bleachers, etc. - Prioritizes, organizes and schedules carpentry work orders for the assigned area.
- Operates tools and equipment of the trade.
- Respond to emergency situations as required.
- Inspects (daily) and operates a service vehicle.
- Performs other assigned comparable duties which are within the scope of knowledge, skills and abilities required by this class specification.
Rate of pay: $33.88 per hour plus a comprehensive benefits package.
